hep solar and Stadtwerke Stuttgart sign a cooperation agreement

The Baden-Württemberg-based solar specialist hep solar and Stadtwerke Stuttgart have signed a cooperation agreement. Over the next few years, they plan to jointly develop and implement solar projects in Germany with a total capacity of up to 200 MWp.

hep solar, an owner-managed family business based in Güglingen, develops, builds, operates, and finances solar parks around the world, particularly in Germany, Japan, and North America. The company covers the entire solar energy value chain: from project development and construction to operation. As part of its partnership with Stadtwerke Stuttgart, hep solar will primarily be responsible for project development. Stadtwerke Stuttgart will handle the financing, electricity marketing, and operation of the solar park.

The state capital of Stuttgart has set a goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2035. Since 2011, Stadtwerke Stuttgart has been supporting the state capital in achieving this goal and has consistently focused on renewable energies, including by building a portfolio of ground-mounted solar plants in Germany. As part of its future strategy, Stadtwerke Stuttgart has also already launched several wind energy projects and installed PV systems.

Partnership supports climate protection goal of the state capital Stuttgart

As part of its partnership with hep solar, Stadtwerke Stuttgart is expanding its solar energy production. The plan is to build solar parks with a total capacity of up to 200 MWp. This will enable the reduction of up to 88,000 tons of CO₂ emissions. The energy generated is sufficient to supply approximately 65,000 average German households with electricity, further reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Martin Vogt, Global Head of Project Development at hep solar: “We currently have around 90 projects in Germany with a total capacity of approximately 1 GWp (DC) in the pipeline. In our partnership with Stadtwerke Stuttgart, we are focusing on Baden-Württemberg and are pleased to have found a strong regional partner. The collaboration provides both parties with long-term planning security, and at hep solar, we can fully concentrate on one of our core competencies: project development.”

“Through our partnership with hep solar, we are strategically combining the expertise of both companies to further advance the energy transition,” says Peter Drausnigg, Technical Director of Stadtwerke Stuttgart. “The partnership we have now agreed upon is another important building block for achieving climate neutrality in Stuttgart and the region.”
