The Alderson solar project in Canada, developed by solar specialist hep solar, has reached an important milestone. The project company has signed a contract with the Canadian government for the sale of 30 percent of the Green Energy Certificates (Green RECs) produced annually.
hep solar: Sale of energy certificates to the Canadian government through the Alderson solar project
A fixed price over 20 years was agreed upon for the certificates. Thorsten Eitle, Chief Sales Officer at hep solar: “When the project was acquired, the plan was to sell the Green RECs on the open market at prevailing market prices. As a result, the achievable price depended largely on demand. The sale to the Canadian government over a fixed period at a fixed price now has a positive impact on project revenue and thus on the net present value (NPV).” The fixed-price agreement reduces market volatility, which increases the predictability of cash flows. Semi-professional and professional investors can invest in the Alderson Solar Park through the HEP Solar Club Deal 1 GmbH & Co. closed-end investment partnership.
Largest solar project to date by hep solar
The Alderson solar project is located in southern Alberta and, with a nominal capacity of over 120 MWp (DC), is the largest solar project to date by hep solar. The 270-hectare park is expected to generate over 190,000 MWh annually using approximately 200,000 solar modules. In the spring, hep solar received approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission to construct and operate the project. Project implementation is proceeding according to plan.
