hep global GmbH, the Baden-Württemberg-based specialist in solar parks and solar investments, has been awarded the 2024 ESG Transformation Award. In the “Impact Investing” category, hep took second place, receiving recognition for its fund “HEP – Solar Green Energy Impact Fund 1 GmbH & Co. geschlossene Investment KG” [1] and for its ESG strategy.
hep Wins the 2024 ESG Transformation Award
With the “HEP – Solar Green Energy Impact Fund 1”—the first official climate protection fund—HEP aims to play a key role in shaping the sustainable transformation of the financial sector. The fund’s goal is to build production capacity for renewable energy and reduce CO2 emissions. “It serves as a benchmark for the level of ambition of all our subsequent products,” says Heiko Szczodrowski, CEO of HEP Kapitalverwaltung AG. “With our exclusive ‘HEP – Solar Club Deal 1’ [2], we now also offer high-net-worth individuals who qualify as semi-professional investors investment opportunities similar to those available to institutional investors. We are delighted that our commitment has been recognized by the independent ESG Transformation Award.”
A wide range of sustainable solutions
As a solar park developer and financier, hep covers the entire value chain—from site selection and development, through component selection, to assessing durability and recyclability at the end of a component’s life cycle—and incorporates all sustainability aspects of the EU Taxonomy Regulation. Thanks to this unique business model, hep makes an impact on two levels: on the one hand, by constructing solar parks as a renewable energy source, and on the other hand, by considering sustainability aspects throughout the supply chain of its solar park components. “Through our careful supplier selection processes, we ensure that our direct suppliers adhere to environmental and human rights standards, and we are committed to integrating these standards into earlier stages of the value chain as well,” says Dr. Julian Hochscherf, ESG Manager at hep.
In addition, hep develops concepts to ensure that solar parks provide additional benefits. The biodiversity approach, for example, aims to design interventions in ecosystems in such a way that, in addition to the primary purpose—the construction of a photovoltaic system to generate green energy—the original function of the land is also supported and its preservation is taken into account during development activities. Furthermore, the hep Group helps other companies reduce energy-related emissions with its solar products and offers customized solutions precisely tailored to the customer’s energy consumption requirements. These tailored solutions help companies achieve their sustainability goals cost-effectively while accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy.
ESG Transformation Award
The ESG Transformation Award was presented for the second time in 2024 and recognizes outstanding sustainability initiatives in the financial industry. A four-member independent jury—including Silke Stremlau, Chair of the German Federal Government’s Sustainable Finance Advisory Board, Lanna Idriss, board member of SOS Children’s Villages, and Prof. Christian Klein, Chair of Sustainable Finance at the University of Kassel – recognizes initiatives in the areas of environment, social, and governance (ESG) and evaluates them based on scientific indicators. Other 2024 award winners included Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, the financial services group SEB, and Zurich Insurance.
The awards ceremony took place on April 24, 2024, in a festive atmosphere at the Museum of Communication in Frankfurt. Approximately 100 guests attended the gala, including leading figures from the financial services industry.
